US federal holidays

US federal holidays follow the schedule set by the federal government. When a fixed-date holiday falls on a weekend, the observed federal day off is shifted (Friday for a Saturday holiday, Monday for a Sunday holiday). Pages on the Site list the date the holiday actually falls on, not always the observed day off. For payroll, banking, and government scheduling, verify the observed date with an official source such as the US Office of Personnel Management.

Religious and cultural observances

Easter dates use the Western (Gregorian) computus. Eastern Orthodox Easter, Jewish, Islamic, Hindu, Buddhist, and other religious calendars follow different rules and are not the focus of this Site. For dates governed by a religious authority, consult that authority directly.

Moon phases, sunrise, sunset

Where pages mention moon phases, daylight, or astronomical events, the values are computed with simplified models and are useful as general reference. Sunrise and sunset times in particular vary by your latitude, longitude, and elevation; for navigation, photography, aviation, agriculture, or any other use that depends on precise timing, use a dedicated tool tied to your exact location.

Historical dates

"This day in history" entries summarise widely reported events. Historical dates can vary slightly between sources because of calendar reforms (Julian vs Gregorian) and time-zone differences. Use a primary source for academic work.
